HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 29 (acn) The same members of the men's team two years ago and some changes in the women's squad will mark Cuban presentation at the World Chess Olympiad which the Azeri capital, Baku, will host between next September 1st and 14th.
Leinier Dominguez (2723 ELO points) leads the squad announced by the National Chess Commission and will be accompanied by Lazaro Bruzon (2681), Yuniesky Quesada (2631), Isan Ortiz (2578) and Yuri Gonzalez (2555), all under the command of captain-coach Aryam Abreu.
The group is intended to improve the seventh seat achieved in Tromso 2014, despite being Cuba's best ever performance, also reached in Novi Sad 1990 and Calviá 2004.
Meanwhile, the women's side includes the national champion, Oleiny Linares (2298) and veteran Maritza Arribas (2337), plus Yaniet Marrero (2277), Lisandra Llaudy (2285) and newcomer Yuleisy Hernandez (2276).
Lazaro Bueno will be responsible for coaching them this time and they have the purpose of overcoming the 30 th post they obtained in the previous edition.
It will be much more demanding getting closer to their historic performance, the fourth seat of Khanty-Mansiysk 2010.
The technical commission was responsible for making the selections and stressed they took into account performances in the previous edition and those in the recent Capablanca Memorial tournament.
