Cuban Videaux qualifies to finals in Gymnastics World Challenge Cup

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 24 (acn) Cuban Marcia Videaux qualified to the finals of vault and uneven bars events, on the opening day of the 2016 Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup, in Anadia, Portugal.

Videaux, who is already qualified to Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games, was included in the group of eight women qualified in the two apparatus planned for the opening day when finishing second on vault with score of 14,775 units, and sixth in uneven bars (13,200), according to the official website of the contest.
In the vault event, she got notes of 14,800 and 14,750. Marcia is actually trying for perfecting the last attempt to include it in her repertoire toward the Olympics, next August, Carlos Gil, coach of the Cuban men's team, told JIT.
Gil added that the young Cuban athlete had a good performance in the two apparatus, as well as Manrique Larduet and Randy Leru, the other two Cubans attending the contest, who only competed in the pommel horse event, but they failed to reach the final.
It was also scheduled their presentation at the rings, but they chose not to compete, since, while some of the other participants are engaged only in competition, both Cuban athletes maintain high training loads in conjunction with the event, said the young coach.
Today, Manrique and Randy will seek their ticket to the finals in parallel and horizontal bars, while Videaux will do it in floor exercise and balance beam.
