HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 22 (acn) Cuba returned to winning ways on its tour against teams from the Canadian-American (Can-Am) League when beating 6-4 the Sussex County Miners.
Cuba was losing 1-4 in the ninth, when it took the lead by scoring five runs combining seven hits, including doubles by Jefferson Delgado and Yoelvis Fiss off the defeated reliever Josh Wood.
Before the rebellion of the last inning, Cuba had been dominated by the starting pitcher of the Sussex County Miners, Andrés Santiago, who allowed seven hits with one earned run and six strikeouts in eight innings.
Jefferson Delgado hit two doubles in four at-bats and scored two runs to offensively highlight for the Cuban squad, accompanied by second baseman Juan Carlos Torriente -2 for 4- and outfielder Yoelvis Fiss (2 for 2), authors of two RBIs per capita in the match.
Yaifredo Dominguez replaced Vladimir Baños, Cuban starting pitcher, and won the game by allowing only four hits and one earned run in seven innings and a third, while left-hander Livan Moinelo took the save.
Now Cuba has negative balance of four wins and seven losses in the tour agreed to 19 games against sides of the Can-Am League.
The squad coached by Roger Machado will face again today the Sussex County Miners.
