HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 20 (acn) Cuba lost to Finland, on the final day of the first weekend of group B of the second level men's World Volleyball League, in a match that took place at the Municipal Central Gymnasium in Osaka, Japan.
According to the website of the contest, Cubans lost 1-3 (18-25, 25-15, 23-25 and 23-25), with the Finns having a great performance in the service.
However, the top scorer of the match was Cuban outside hitter Rolando Cepeda, with 22 points, 19 spikes, three blockings, and no ace, supported by inside hitter Javier Jimenez (13-10-1-2).
Meanwhile, Olli-Pekka Ojansuvu (20-13-2-5) and Niklas Seppanen (10-10-0-0) highlighted for the winners.
The stats of the match favored those coached by Rodolfo Sanchez in attack (52-39) and blocking (9-8), but Finland took better advantage in service (13-4) and unforced errors (24-30).
On Sunday's other match in Osaka, the hosts beat 3-0 (25-21, 25-17 and 26-24) South Korea.
With these results, Japan won the second level group B with seven points, two wins and no losses, followed by Finns (5-2-1), Cubans (4-2-1) and South Koreans (2-0-2).
Now Canada (9-3-0) and the Netherlands (9-3-0) top the overall standings ahead of Japan (7-2-1), Turkey (6-3-0), Egypt (5-2-1), Finland (5-2-1), Cuba (4-2-1), Czech Republic (4-1-2), Slovakia (2-1-2), South Korea (2-0-3), Portugal (1-0-3) and China (0-0-3).
