Cuban discus throwers to compete in StockholmHAVANA, Cuba, Jun 16 (acn) Cuban discus throwers Denia Caballero, last year world champion, and Yaime Perez will compete today at the eighth stop of the IAAF Diamond League, based in Stockholm, Sweden.

Caballero, who won bronze medals in the meetings of Shanghai and Oslo, will seek to stay on the podium of this strong event, which is led by Croatian Sandra Perkovic, with 30 points.

Perkovic, London 2012 Olympic monarch, is followed by German Nadine Muller, with 12 units; while Caballero (8) ranks third and Perez (4) shares the sixth seat with French Mélina Robert-Michon.

In her most recent result, Denia, Toronto 2015 Pan American Game's champion, scored 62.65 meters in the capital of Norway, last June 9th, performance she will try to improve on Swedish soil.

In the case of Perez, silver medalist in the continental competition which hosted Canada last July, she will go for her first medal this season in the Diamond League.

The two Cuban discus throwers are training for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, next August, event where Caballero is one of the serious contenders to the podium.

The IAAF Diamond League, in its seventh edition, will have 14 stops and a new scoring system that will reward with points the athletes finishing in the first six seats in each event.

The winners will get 10 points, runner-ups will earn 6 units, and silver medalists will win four; while those ending in the fourth, fifth and sixth spots will receive three, two and one unit, in that order.
