HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 13 (acn) The Cuban men's team departed to Osaka, Japan, to compete in the first weekend of second level preliminary Group B of the World Volleyball League, stage that will take place from June 17 to July 3rd, with two others stops.
With the main purpose of continue training and define the final squad to the Olympics of coming August in Rio de Janeiro, the disciples of Rodolfo Sanchez departed on Sunday led by captain and outside hitter, Rolando Cepeda.
Inside hitters Javier Jimenez and Osmany Uriarte, and central blocker Livan Osoria, along with the also inside hitter Abrahan Alfonso and the central blocker Luis Sosa are the key players of the Caribbean side.
The team also includes the setters Ricardo Calvo and Adrian Goire, inside hitter Osniel Melgarejo, outside hitter Dariel Albo, central blocker Javier Concepcion and libero Yonder García, according to the digital edition of the sports publication JIT
According to the website of the tournament, Cuba will face South Korea on June 17th; Japan on the 18th and Finland the next day, based in the city of Osaka.
The program for the stop of Bratislava, Slovakia, will be against the hosts, on June 23, Czech Republic (24) and the Netherlands (25), while in Tampere, Finland, Cubans will play versus Canada, on July 1st, the local team (2) and Portugal (3).
The final of this second level will be in Portugal, phase that includes the host side and the top three squads in the standings, with the semifinal on July 9th, and the medals discussion will be a day later.
Before traveling to Rio de Janeiro, Cubans will make a brief stay in Argentina, where they will play two or three matches against the national team of that country.
