HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 10 (acn) The Cuban women's team will face Croatia today, at the beginning of the second weekend of the third level of the 2016 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix, in a match which will take place in the city of Chiclayo, Peru.
After finishing second in Group B, based in Bendigo, Australia, with balance of two wins and one loss, the disciples of Roberto Garcia will play versus Croats, who topped the standings of that poole with three wins.
Precisely, the Europeans were the only ones who defeated 3-1 Cubans, who in turn beat with the same score the squads of Australia and Colombia.
As noted by Granma newspaper, it seems that Garcia can count entirely this time with the services of his outside hitter and best player today, Melissa Vargas, suffering from pains on her shoulder in last weekend matches, in Bendigo.
Colombia (1-2) and Australia (0-3) escorted Croats (3-0) and Cubans (2-1) in the final standings in that first week.
Algeria versus Peru will be the other match today in the city of Chiclayo.
Cuba will face the host side and Algeria on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Group A of the third level will also have competitive activity today with the matches Kazakhstan-Australia and Colombia-Mexico, based in the Colombian city of Cali.
So far, the leading teams of the third level in general are the unbeaten sides of Peru and Croatia, both with nine points and three wins without loss, followed by Kazakhstan and Cuba (6-2-1), Colombia and Mexico (3-1-2) and Australia and Algeria (0-0-3).
