Democratic Republic of Congo wants to establish relations in sports with CubaHAVANA, Cuba, Jun 10 (acn) Amos Mbayo Kitenge, president of the Olympic Committee of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) endorsed today in Kinshasa the will of his government to establish cooperative ties with Cuba, a nation that exhibits great development in sports.

We have low level of sport practice in the country, in the international arena we only participate in three sports: taekwondo, handball and soccer, recognized Kitenge during a visit to the embassy of Havana in Kinshasa, where he spoke with Ambassador Marcelo Caballero, reported Prensa Latina.

He noted the need to establish strong ties of cooperation with states such as Cuba, which has great development in the sport worldwide.

DRC will attend the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, scheduled for August 5 to 21, with a delegation of eight competitors in athletics, boxing, swimming, taekwondo and judo, as well as five coaches.

During the exchange, Caballero reported that so far there are 85 Cuban athletes who won their tickets to the Olympics.

He considered that the representation of his country can still get 40 seats more to the mega event in a series of qualifying competitions, which would surpass the figure of 110 athletes attending the London 2012 Olympics.

In Brazil, Cuba aspires to be among the top 15 nations in the standings with representatives in athletics, boxing, wrestling, shooting, rowing, cycling, taekwondo, canoeing, gymnastics, volleyball, weightlifting, swimming, basketball and pentathlon.
