HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 6 (acn) The Cuban men's volleyball team lost to the USA, in the first of two friendly matches that will take place at Havana's Sports City Coliseum.
Americans won 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-18, and 25-22) and despite losing the first set, knew how to take advantage mainly from unforced errors by their rivals, thus proving they are a more seasoned and top level squad.
United States´ reaction was led by outside hitter Murphy Troy, who entered the match during the second set.
Cuban starters were Rolando Cepeda, Javier Jimenez, Osmani Uriarte, Livan Osoria, Luis Sosa, setter Ricardo Calvo and libero Jonder Garcia.
Cepeda, Jiménez and Sosa were the highlights for the pupils of Rodolfo Sanchez.
Sanchez also used replacements Osmiel Mergarejo and Abraham Alfonso, who responded to the trust placed on them by their coach.
The second game is agreed for today on the same stage as part of the preparation for the Olympic Games next August in Rio de Janeiro.
Americans got their ticket to Rio at Japan 2015 World Cup, where they ranked first, while Cuba won the berth by winning the gold medal in the continental Olympic qualifying tournament this year in Edmonton, Canada.
