Cuban Pole Vaulter Yarisley Silva wins in BirminghamHAVANA, Cuba, Jun 6 (acn) Cuban Yarisley Silva won the women's pole vault event at the meeting of Birmingham, UK, sixth stop of the IAAF Diamond League, with new record for this meeting.

Silva, gold medalist at Beijing-2015 world championships, reached 4.84 meters, her season best, world leader of the year and also record for the Diamond League, reported Prensa Latina News Agency.

The Caribbean athlete, London 2012 silver medalist, beat Greek Katerina Stefanidi (4.77 personal best), who three days ago won the Golden Gala in Rome. The third seat went to Swiss Nicole Büchler (4.77).

Now the Cuban, world indoor champion in Sopot 2014, appears third in the struggle for the diamond with 18 points, behind Stefanidi (30) and Büchler (19).
Meanwhile, American English Gardner won the women's 100 meters with time of 11.02 seconds, surpassing world silver medalist, Dutch Dafne Schippers (11.09) and another American Tianna Bartoletta (11.11).

United States also shined in the 100 meters hurdles by achieving the first four spots, highlighting Kendra Harrison, who won in Rome with 12.24 seconds, second best of all time.

Harrison took the gold with time of 12.45 seconds and beat her compatriots Brianna Rollins, 2013 world champion, who scored 12.57 and Kristi Castlin (12.75).

The women's 5000 meter event had a Kenyan podium. The small Vivian Cheruiyot, double world champion and current Olympic runner up, beat with time of 15:12.79 minutes her compatriots Mercy Cherono (15:12.85) and Janet Kisa (15:19:48).
