Cuban catcher describes as positive training with national team

MATANZAS, Cuba, Jun 2 (acn) Cuban catcher Ariel Martinez considered positive his preparatory stage in the training of the national pre-selection baseball squad, despite not being chosen for the final roster of the team that will represent the country in the Can-Am League.

Martinez, who is just 19, exclusively told ACN the satisfaction that causes having shared with the best players of Cuba and the possibility to train under the orders of Roger Machado, who was an ace catcher of Ciego Avila and Cuba teams.

I talked with Roger during different days of training and I tried to take the best advice he could offer me because of his extensive experience behind home plate, said the lanky youngster who plays for the Matanzas Crocodiles in the national baseball series.

Aspects concerning the conduction of pitching staff, as well as synchronization of movements to catch base stealers were points where emphasis was placed during the exercises, involving other top level catchers such as Yosvani Alarcon and Osvaldo Vasquez.

Martinez joined yesterday Matanzas team involved in the Third U-23 National Championship in which they appear third in group B, with balance of three wins and five losses.

The immediate purpose of the novice player is participating in the U-23 tournament as one of the ways to keep sports shape for the 56 th National Baseball Series.
