CIEGO DE AVILA, Cuba, May 27 (acn) The Cuban women's national basketball pre-selection trains in Ciego de Avila province with the aim of participating in the world repechage, from June 13 to 19 in Nantes, France, and get a ticket to the 2016 Summer Olympics.
This tournament, which grants five berths and is also the last possibility of reaching the Olympics, will be attended by Argentina, Belarus, Cameroon, China, Korea, Cuba, Spain, France, New Zealand, Nigeria, Turkey and Venezuela, divided into four groups.
Alberto Zabala Fons, head coach of the Caribbean squad, told ACN that Cuba is included in group A, accompanied by France and New Zealand.
He said that the first two teams of each poole advance to the quarterfinals and then the four winners in this phase automatically get their tickets, and the fifth berth will be fought among the four losers.
The Giraldo Cordova Cardin indoor room of Ciego de Avila city hosts until next Sunday the training of Zabala´s pupils, which includes two games versus the junior men's team of this territory.
Zabala stated that there are no injuries in the team and the preparation has been based primarily on implementing of several variants of the game in which all athletes are key figures to score points.
