HAVANA, Cuba, May 27 (acn) Cuba won the gold medal and one of the tickets for the 2017 World League when beating Argentina in the final of the Men's Pan American Volleyball Cup held at Juan de la Barrera Olympic gymnasium in Mexico City.
According to the website of the contest, Cubans, without their three main figures- defeated Argentines 3-2 (30-32, 20-25, 25-23, 25-18, and 19-17) in two hours and 11 minutes.
The top scorer of the match was Argentine Bruno Lima, who scored 29 points, supported by Nicolas Lazo (20), Joaquin Gallego (11) and Fabian Flores (10), while Abrahan Alfonso (28) and Luis Sosa (14) highlighted by the Caribbean side.
Stats show better results for Argentina, also without its entire team- in attack (72-62) and blocking (8-7), but Cuba led in service (8-3) and unforced errors (32-42).
The Caribbean island was undefeated leader of the qualifying group B, with wins over Costa Ricans (3-0) and Canadians (3-2), and in semifinals they beat Mexicans 3-1.
The other two group leaders were Americans, also with two wins in Poole A, and Argentina (3-0) in group C.
In the bronze medal match, Canada won 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 29-27) over Mexico, while USA finished fifth after beating 3 -0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-14) the Dominican Republic.
Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Honduras finished from seventh to tenth seats respectively.
The Men's Pan American Volleyball Cup granted five tickets for the 2017 World League, divided into three for the best teams from North, Central America and the Caribbean, and two for South America.
