Several teams confirm attendance to Cuba Track Cycling Cup

HAVANA, Cuba, May 25 (acn) With confirmation so far of representatives of eight nations, the Cuba Track Cycling Cup will take place from May 26 to 29 at Reinaldo Paseiro Velodrome, east Havana.

The facility will welcome riders from Jamaica, Chile, Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Switzerland and Peru, Humberto Ruiz, national methodologist of the sport, told ACN.

Ruiz specified that in addition to the members of the national pre-selection, of both sexes, the contest will also be attended by cyclists from all provinces of the country, given the national character of the event (with foreign participation), which will grant points for the coming main domestic championship.
He added that the Cuban national team will include the seven stars who attended the Pan American Road Championships, held this weekend in Tachira, Venezuela, where Iraida Garcia and Arlenis Sierra made the one-two in the women's event, result which placed Cuba in third seat of the standings (1-1-0).
Marlies Mejías and Yumari Gonzalez complete the women's squad, while Jans Carlos Arias, Onel Santa Clara and Frank Consuegra are the members of the men's team,
It will be significant the absence of Lisandra Guerra, who is at the Aigle World Center, in Switzerland, where she is training for the Olympic Games Rio de Janeiro 2016 (Brazil) in coming August, where she will compete in the events of speed and keirin.
According to JIT sports publication, after completion of the event, the group of Cubans qualified for the summer event will conduct a training base in Mexican Velodrome of Aguascalientes, from June 10 to 25.
