Cuban javelin thrower finishes seventh in Ostrava Golden Spike

HAVANA, Cuba, May 20 (acn) Cuban hammer thrower Roberto Janet finished seventh in the 55th Ostrava Golden Spike IAAF World Challenge, in the Czech Republic, where the also Cuban pole vaulters Yarisley Silva and Lázaro Borges compete today.

Janet reached 75.82 meters in an event won by Poland in both sexes with its stars Pawel Fajdek and Anita Wlodarczyk, who both scored best world marks of the season, as published in the official site of the contest.
Fajdek, double world monarch, scored 80.66 meters to achieve his 20th consecutive victory since March 2015 and to go beyond 80 meters for 24th time in his life.
Meanwhile, Wlodarczyk, London 2012 Olympic silver medalist and world champion in Beijing 2015, won with 78.54 meters, which is the eighth best mark of all time among women and the fifth best of her career.
The expectation among Cuban fans of athletics will increase today due to the debut of Yarisley Silva, pole vaulter universal queen, who will have among her opponents to the current leader of the ranking, American Sandi Morris, who won with 4.83 meters in the Doha Diamond League.
The list of Silva´s rivals also includes the host Dalia Ptacnikova, Italian Sonia Malavisi and Venezuelan Robelis Peinado.
On the other hand, in the men's event, Borges will have 13 opponents led by French Olympic leader Renuad Lavillenie and Canadian world champion Shawnacy Barber.
But today's main attraction will be on track where Jamaican Usain Bolt predicted 9.8 seconds for his first European race of the season.
The six-time Olympic gold medalist opened this campaign with 10.05 seconds in the Cayman Invitational tournament, where he suffered a slight muscle strain, which was checked in Munich by Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt.
"I feel very good. I trained yesterday and I am making progress, "he told reporters in Prague, a day before his eighth presence in Ostrava.
