HAVANA, Cuba, May 20 (acn) Cuban kayakers Jorge Garcia and Reinier Torres, in the men's K-2 1000 meters and Fidel Vargas, in the men's K-1 200 meters, will seek to start their path to the finals of their events in the second day of the Pan American Championships in Atlanta, United States.
According to the website of the contest, which grants Olympic tickets to the champions, the Garcia-Torres duo and Vargas will row today, with the aspiration to be included among the nine finalists.
Yesterday, Cuban canoeists Serguey Torres and Jorge Francisco Dayan, in the men's C-2 1000 meters, won the gold medal, and ensured their presence in the Olympic Games next August in Rio de Janeiro.
With this result, Cuban canoeing won its second Olympic berth, as in 2015 the kayaker Yusmary Mengana reached her ticket to Rio after finishing fifth in the world championships of Italy.
