HAVANA, Cuba, May 19 (acn) A group of six Cuban athletes is ready to compete in the World Cup of Shooting to be hosted by Munich, Germany, from May 20 to 25, tournament that will serve them as training for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Rafael Guerra, national commissioner of the sport, told ACN that from the seven qualified to the summer event, only Juan Miguel Rodríguez, in skeet event, will not be present on German soil.
He mentioned that Rodriguez, Athens 2004 Olympic bronze medalist, will go from June 1st to 11 to San Marino, in what will be another stop of the World Cup, competition he described as very important for Cuban shooters.
The contest in Munich will be attended by Leuris Pupo, monarch of London 2012 in men's 25 meters rapid fire pistol; and Eglys de la Cruz, Beijing 2008 bronze medalist in women's 50 m rifle 3 positions.
The group also includes Dianelys Perez, women´s rifle; Reinier Estopiñán and Alexander Molerio, men´s rifle, along with Jorge Grau, men´s 10 and 50 meters pistol.
Guerra highlighted the fighting spirit and optimism of the seven Cuban shooters who will attend the Olympics and face rivals of high quality.
