HAVANA, Cuba, May 19 (acn) The Cuban men's volleyball team will travel today to Mexico, home from next 21 to 27 of the Pan American Cup, a competition that will award five seats to the 2017 World League.
The tickets will be distributed among the confederations of North, Central American and Caribbean (NORCECA) and South America, said the online edition of the sports publication JIT.
The Cuban side appears in Group B along with Costa Rica and Canada, while Poole A includes United States, Dominican Republic and Chile, and Mexico, Honduras, Argentina and Colombia will compete in Group C.
According to the program of the continental tournament, Cubans will debut on May 22 against Costa Ricans and a day later they will face the Canadians.
According to JIT, the Cuban head coach, Rodolfo Sanchez, will not count with the services of his three main figures, Rolando Cepeda, Javier Jimenez and Osmani Uriarte.
Cepeda, Jimenez and Uriarte recently returned from their commitments to contracts with foreign clubs and are training for the upcoming World League and the Olympic Games next August in Rio de Janeiro.
The team will be led by another player inserted in foreign leagues, the central attacker Livan Osoria, and the setters will be Ricardo Calvo and Adrian Eduardo Goire.
The other members of the squad are the outside hitters Dariel Albo and Osniel Rendon, inside hitters Abraham Alfonso, Osniel Melgarejo and Mario Rivera, central blockers Luis Sosa, Javier Octavio Concepción and Darien Ferrer and libero Yonder García.
According to the training plan of the coaching staff, Sanchez's disciples will also face on June 4 and 6 the US national team at Havana's Sports City Coliseum.
