Cuban baseball holds gala for national champions

CIEGO DE AVILA, Cuba, May 12 (acn) The Award Gala of the 55th Cuban National Baseball Series was held tonight in Ciego de Avila, province that won for the second consecutive year the crown in the most popular sport of the country.

The tribute to the three best teams of the season, Ciego de Avila, Pinar del Rio and Matanzas, took from 8pm at the Principal Theatre, where it is also intended to award the 40 athletes of the defensive and offensive All-Stars and the individual leaders.
The authorities in the territory reported that because of the connotation of the festivity for Ciego de Avila and the capacity of the cultural institution, which is about 700 seats, it was decided to place screens at José Martí Park, the boulevard and the Auditorium Stadium to broadcast the signal from the coliseum itself.
After completion of the ceremony, conceived for an hour and 10 minutes, the champions of Cuban baseball shared with other outstanding athletes of the province, the people accompanying them in every game and singer Candido Fabre.
There were culinary offerings for all tastes in areas designated for the enjoyment of the sporting evening, held outside the Cuban capital for the first time.
Roberto Gonzalez, a fan of the local team, told ACN that this joy joins the appointment of Roger Machado as manager of the Cuban side that will play in the 2016 Can-Am League on coming June.
