Cuba faces Panama in futsal tournamentHAVANA, Cuba, May 12 (acn) Cuba will face Panama today in the semifinals of the 2016 CONCACAF Futsal Championship held at the BN Arena, in Hatillo, Costa Rica.

The pupils of Coach Clemente Reynoso are very motivated since last Tuesday, in the third game of the group stage; they defeated 7-4 Canada and got their ticket to the World Cup of Cali, Colombia, next September.

In this WC qualifying tournament, Cubans debuted with 1-1 draw against Curacao and then lost 6-0 to the hosts before beating the Canadian side, with a goal difference of 8 for and 11 against.

Meanwhile, Panama finished the group stage with 18 goals for and 7 against, the best average of the four teams present in semifinals and its roster includes the pivot Claudio Goodridge, co-leader scorer in the preliminary stage along with Canadian Freddy Moojen, both with five goals.

In the other semifinal, Costa Rica will face Guatemala. The winners of each game will fight for the scepter next Saturday, while the losers will go for the third seat.

This will be Cuba´s fifth participation in futsal World Cups as they attended consecutively the events of Spain 1996, Guatemala 2000, Chinese Taipei 2004 and Brazil 2008, but failed to qualify to the latest edition based in Thailand four years ago.
