Cuban discus throwers to IAAF Diamond League in Shanghai

Cuban discus throwers to IAAF Diamond League in ShanghaiHAVANA, Cuba, May 10 (acn) A trio of Cuban discus throwers will compete in the second stop of the IAAF Diamond League, strong athletics competition that will host the Chinese city of Shanghai on May 14th.

The three exponents of Cuba, led by world champion Denia Caballero, will be among the main attractions of the women's discus throw event, an occasion they will use as preparation for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro next August.
The other two members of the Caribbean nation inscribed for that contest are Yarelis Barrios, double Olympic medalist, plus Yaime Perez, fourth in last year's world championship and runner-up in the Pan American Games in Toronto last July.
The main rival of the Cuban athletes on Chinese soil must be Croatian Sandra Perkovic, London 2012 Olympic monarch and serious contender for the podium in Rio de Janeiro.
The Diamond League, in its seventh edition, will have 14 stops and a new scoring system was adopted this year to make each competition even more interesting and competitive, as reflected in the IAAF official website.
In the past six seasons of this prestigious contest, only the first three seats in each of the events earned points, but now the new system will reward athletes included in the top six.
The same amount of points will be awarded at each meeting, with the usual exception of the finals in Zurich and Brussels, where the score will be double.
