Cuban duos win stage at Norceca beach volleyball

HAVANA, Cuba, May 3 (acn) The Cuban pairs made up by Karell Peña-Daisel Quesada and Lianma Flores-Leila Martinez won the titles of the sixth stage of the North, Central American and Caribbean (NORCECA) Beach Volleyball Circuit, held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

According to the website of the contest, Peña and Quesada defeated 2-0 (21-16, 16-21, 15-12) in the final Americans Taylor and Trevor Krabbé, while in the women's event, Flores and Martinez beat the also US duo of Betsi Flint and Kelley Larsen.
The Cuban men's pair won the qualifying stage of group B with four wins and no loss, like the Krabbé brothers, but in poole A.
The same was achieved by Flores and Martinez, and Flint and Larsen, but with three wins on groups A and C, respectively, of the women's event.
Bronze medals were for Mexican Jose Luis Rubio and Joshua Gaxiola and American Geena Urango and Angela Bensend in the men's and women's tournaments in that order.
Both Cuban duos earned 280 points for NORCECA ranking and continue their preparation for the Olympic qualifying tournament to be held next June.
Nivaldo Diaz and Sergio González, members of the Cuban main duo in the men's event, who did not attend this contest, also have a good pace, because they won the gold medals in the second and third stages, based in the Mexican cities of Guaymas and La Paz, in that order.
