HAVANA, Cuba, May 3 (acn) Cuban Leinier Dominguez recovered from his initial loss and beat local Igor Lysyj during the second day of the Russian Team Chess Championship 2016, tournament held in the city of Sochi.
Leinier (2 732 Elo points), defending the second board, won in 92 moves of a Catalonian Defense over Lysyi (2 685) and thus helped his team Saint Petersburg defeating 3.5-2.5 the Zhiguli in a day where the SHSM Moscow beat 4.5-1.5 the Siberia.
According to the website of the tournament, Saint Petersburg's performance also included the victory of Jakov Gueller (2 487) in the 6th board and the surprising loss by Peter Svidler (2 762) in the 1st, while the rest of the games were draws.
The Ladya, from Tatarstan Republic, is the other team involved in the men's event and yesterday was its resting day.
After two of the 10 scheduled rounds, the SHSM Moscow leads with 7.5 points and St. Petersburg and Siberia follows it with 6.5 units each.
The individual highlight so far goes to Russian Ernesto Inarkiev (2686) who plays for the current leader and has already defeated Leinier and the also Russian Dmitry Jakovenko (2731) of Siberia.
