HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 29 (acn) Cuban Asley González, London 2012 Olympic silver medalist and world champion of Rio de Janeiro 2013 in the 90 kilos, will be absent from the Pan American Judo Championships, which will continue today at the Sports City Coliseum in Havana.
Ubelino Moreno, doctor of the Cuban men’s national team, told the Cuban Television that Gonzalez feels discomfort in his right shoulder, so it was decided not to expose him to greater evils when there is just three months for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Among the disciples of Coach Justo Noda, the prominent judoka appears as the main trump card and he wants not to take risks, considering Gonzalez’s satisfactory recovery process, demonstrated in recent international competitions in which he participated.
Gonzalez underwent surgery on his right shoulder due to an injury suffered on the head of the humerus bone in early 2015.
Thus, Gonzalez will lose a good opportunity to continue adding points for the Olympic ranking, as the winners of this tournament earn 400 points for the listing, which distributes 22 and 14 direct tickets, for men and women respectively, to the Olympics.
