Cuba wins four bronze medals in kata in Pan American Judo

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 29 (acn) Cuba won four bronze medals in Kata events of the Pan American Judo Championships, which takes place until next Saturday at the Sports City Coliseum in Havana.
According to JIT sports publication, the bronze medalists were Yubisnabis Santiesteban and Wilber Rodriguez, in mixed Katame no kata, Aryan Arocha and Daniel Morales, in Nage no kata for men, Yubisnabis Santiesteban and Wilber Rodriguez in mixed Nage no kata and Boannis Chang and Yanaisa Peña, in mixed Ju no kata.
Manuel Larranaga, president of the Pan American Judo Confederation (PJC), told JIT the winners of the Kata events of this continental competition will earn tickets to the upcoming World Championship.
Larrañaga also praised the good local preparation for a tournament that brings together 37 kata competitors and 197 regular athletes, 104 men and 93 women, the latter in search of improving their ranking positions for the Olympic Games in coming August in Rio de Janeiro.
The winners of this tournament earn 400 points for the world list, which distributes 22 and 14 direct tickets, for men and women respectively, to the Olympics.
