HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 12 (acn) The Cuban futsal team will depart today for Brazil, where it plans to play six friendly matches as training for the CONCACAF WC Qualifying tournament, which will be settled in Costa Rica, from next May 8 to 15.
The 14 men coached by Clemente Reynoso will play six games, from April 12 to 23, in two cities of that country, mainly against local clubs.
In addition, the Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed that a presumable closing match will take place in Maringa versus the national team, which will undoubtedly require much more effort of the Cuban squad.
Within the leading figures of the Cuban side that traveled to the South American nation are several men with experience in World Cups such as are goalkeeper Breiniet Suarez, defender Ronald Egozcue and winger Jhonet Martinez.
The group also includes goalkeeper Nelson Johnston, winger-pivots Reinier Socarrás, Daniel Hernandez, Karel Mariño and Diego Ramirez and pívots Reinier Fiallo, Luis Yunior Portal, Sandy Dominguez, Alejandro Marrero, Edgar Castillo and Bennis Marquez.
Undoubtedly, these warm-up matches against Brazilian clubs will be very beneficial for Cubans, who next month will seek in Costa Rica one of the two tickets of their group for the World Cup, to be held in Cali, Colombia, from September 10 to October 1st.
Cuba has attended four futsal WC: Spain 1996, Guatemala 2000, Chinese Taipei 2004 and Brazil 2008 but failed to qualify to the CONCACAF finals for the latest edition of Thailand 2012.
