Cuban thri-athlete returns after training in Dominican RepublicHAVANA, Cuba, Apr 12 (acn) Cuba's Michel Gonzalez returns home after completing a favorable training base for 10 days on Dominican soil, where he won the title of the 2016 Dominican Republic Navy Triathlon.

The main figure among men in Cuba earned the scepter of the fourth edition of the contest after winning the three segments of the sprint competition (750 meter swimming, 20 kilometer cycling and 5 km running), which was attended by 285 athletes.
The website of the Dominican Navy says Gonzalez was escorted by Kelvin and Erick Martinez, in that order, while Katherine Garrido won the women's event, followed by Brenda Schnapps and Stefanny Contreras.
The event, to mark the 172 nd anniversary of the founding of the institution, was held last Sunday at the Sans Souci Officers Naval Club of Santo Domingo, capital of the Caribbean country.
Before this competition, Michel had participated in the Pan American Championships of the sport in Sarasota, United States, where neither he nor his teammate Leslie Amat had an outstanding performance in pursuit of earning points for the ranking towards the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, when failing to conclude the three distances.
