Cuban basketball season enters final stage

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 4 (acn) With Capitalinos and Ciego de Avila teams as animators, the final of the men's Superior Basketball League (LSB by its Spanish acronym) will start today at the Sports City Coliseum in Havana.

Once again these two sides will be the protagonists of the series for the title, won last year by Capitalinos, which will now try to retain the crown against the Buffaloes which want to return to the top.
Ciego de Avila includes on their payroll seasoned players like Yoan Luis Haiti, William Granda and Yasser Rodriguez, a trio of members of the national team that will be a constant hazard to the rival defense.
In the case of Capitalinos, now they cannot use several of their leading figures, including Jasiel Rivero and Orestes Torres, who are hired in foreign leagues, so the task of achieving the title will be more complicated.
According to the competitive calendar of the final round, the first two games will be held in Havana on Monday and Tuesday; and then actions will move to the Giraldo Cordova Cardin multi-purpose room (April 8, 9 and 11).
As it is expected to happen, if necessary the final play off would return to Havana on April 14 and 15.
In the semifinals, agreed on a five-game series, Capitalinos swept 3-0 Guantánamo; while Ciego de Avila beat 3-1 Villa Clara.
According to data published by Juventud Rebelde newspaper, since LSB structure changed in the 2004-2005 season, this will be the eighth final between these two sides, with six wins for Ciego de Avila.
