HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 22 (acn) The Tampa Bay Rays team, belonging to the U.S. Major League Baseball, defeated the Cuban team 4-1 on Tuesday in a historic baseball game held at the Latin American Stadium of this city.
The day was marked by the presence at the Stadium of Army General Raul Castro, President of the councils of State and Ministers, and U.S. President Barack Obama, who with this activity concluded his official visit to the island.
The only run of the Cuban team took place during the ninth inning through the solo homer of third baseman Rudy Reyes.
The game on Tuesday against Tampa Bay Rays is a sign of mutual interest in strengthening ties and consolidating sports as a bridge between Cuba and the United States, in the process of normalization of bilateral relations.
Many consider the historic game as a new and important step towards the establishment of a system that allows the legal and safe insertion of Cuban baseball players in top U.S. baseball circuits.
