Cuban beach volley duo finish third in Guatemala

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 14 (acn) Cubans Lianma Martinez and Leila Flores won the bronze medal in the first stop of the Circuit North, Central American and Caribbean (NORCECA) beach volleyball tournament, based in Guatemala City.

According to the NORCECA website, Martinez and Flores finished third by defeating 2-1 (15-21, 21-18 and 15-11) the Canadian duo Saxton-Cockrell, whom they had already beaten 2-0 (21-19 and 21-17) in the preliminary phase.
The disciples of Mayra Ferrer finished first and unbeaten in the qualifying group A with balance of three wins, the other two against Hondurans Etches-Hyynos and Salvadorans Vasquez-Vargas.
In the semifinals, the Cuban duo, champion of Veracruz 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games and runner up of the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games, lost 0-2 (20-22 and 14-21) to Americans MacColloch -Reeves, who later won the title.
McColloch and Reeves beat 2-0 (25-23 and 21-10) in the final Canadians Gordon and Wilkerson.
On the other hand, the Cuban men's duo made up by Sergio Gonzalez and Nivaldo Diaz will attend from March 31 to April 4 the second stage of the Circuit, based in Sonora , Mexico.
