Four Cuban boxers to Americas Olympic qualifier

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 9 (acn) Cubans Roniel Iglesias, Robeisy Ramírez, Erislandy Savon and Leinier Peró will attend the Americas Olympic qualifying boxing tournament that begins this Friday in Buenos Aires.

The national commission reported that the call-up emerged from the analysis carried out until last weekend by the coaching group to complete the Cuban squad that will be present in Rio de Janeiro.

Welterweight Iglesias and featherweight Ramirez will seek a step that would allow them to try their second crowns after winning as light-welterweight and flyweight, respectively, in London 2012.

The cruiser Savon was eliminated on that contest, but then he fought as a super heavyweight and lacked the expertise that now holds him in the universal elite.
Peró, Pan American super heavyweight champion, will try to access his Olympic debut.

Organizers said the tournament in the Argentine capital will run for nine days and will grant 25 tickets in the men's event.

Cuba's light flyweight Joahnys Argilagos, flyweight Yosbany Veitía, lightweight Lazaro Alvarez, light welterweight Yasnier Toledo, middleweight Arlen Lopez and light heavyweight Julio Cesar La Cruz already got their Olympic berths.

Initially, the Cuban featherweight Andy Cruz had also won his ticket, but it was needed him to ascend to another division and hence the presence of Robeisy in the beautiful South American city.
