HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 7 (acn) Cuban Greco-Roman wrestlers won three berths to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, on the closing day of the continental qualifying tournament in the US city of Frisco.
The ones who obtained the tickets were Yasmany Lugo, in the 98 kilograms , champion in the Pan American Games in Toronto last July; Miguel Martinez (66) and Yurisandy Hernandez (75).
Lugo only fought twice in the contest; he first beat 9-0 Brazilian Davi Albino, and then he won 5-0 over American Josef Patrick Rau.
Martinez , monarch of the Veracruz 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, debuted with an 11-0 victory against Peruvian Mario Molina, in his second bout he defeated 9-1 Colombian Jair Cuero and then he beat 9-0 Honduran Jefrin Mejia.
Meanwhile, in his first outing to the mattress Yurisandy Hernandez beat 8-0 Panamanian Alvis Almond, then won 2-0 over Mexican Juan Angel Escobar; and in semifinals he defeated 7-0 Brazilian Angelo Marques.
The only one who could not qualify for Rio de Janeiro was Alan Vera ( 85 kg) after an initial 0-5 loss against Brazilian Ronisson Brandao, result which prevented him from advancing in the standings.
These three Cuban wrestlers joined Ismael Borrero (59), and the double Olympic champion Mijail Lopez (130) who had already achieved their tickets to the Olympics in the World Championship in Las Vegas, USA, last September, event where Borrero won the gold medal and Mijaín finished second.
