HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 7 (acn) Cuba added five tickets to the 2016 Summer Olympics, through freestyle wrestlers present in the continental qualifying tournament in the US city of Frisco, Texas.
The first one to reach that goal was Javier Cortina, 97 kg, who debuted with easy 10-0 win over Colombia Jarlys Mosquera, and in semifinals he easily beat 11-0 Brazilian Paulo Santos, as reflected in the official site the contest.
Another one who got the berth was Livan Lopez ( 74), bronze medalist in London 2012 Olympics, who opened with 10-0 victory against Haitian Asnage Castelly to then defeat 5-0 Chilean Eduardo Gajardo.
Alejandro Valdés (65) also had a good performance when winning in his first bout 10-0 over Ecuadorian Mauricio Sanchez to then beat with the same score Jeffry Avila, from the Dominican Republic and finally he defeated 6-0 Canadian Haislan Veranes.
Meanwhile Yowlys Bonne (57), bronze medalist in the universal tournament of Tashkent 2014, earned his berth after consecutively defeating Colombian Euclides Cuero (12-0) and Argentine Agustin Destribats (5-0), in that order.
Finally , Reineris Salas (86), twice runner-up in world tournaments, debuted with an easy 6-0 win over Dominican Billy Valdez, then he beat 10-4 Canadian Tamerlan Tagziev and in semifinals, Salas had a tough opponent in the local Jacob Herbert, whom he defeated 2-1 in a hard-fought bout.
Only Yudelmis Alpajón (125) could not reach the ticket after losing 1-3 on his first fight to Venezuelan Luis Felipe Vivenes.
The finalists in each division of this continental qualifying tournament guaranteed their presence in the Rio Olympics.
