HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 4 (acn) Cuban Osleni Guerrero, top seed in the men's individual event, lost in his debut against Italian Indra Bagus Ade Chandra in the international badminton tournament in Peru.
According to the official site of the contest, Guerrero had a good start when winning the first set 21-17, but his opponent managed to beat him in the next two sets with scores of 21-6 and 21-15, in a match that lasted 48 minutes.
This is Bagus´ second win of the year over Guerrero as the Indonesian nationalized in Italy previously defeated the Caribbean athlete in Manhattan Beach, Los Angeles, United States, last February.
On that occasion, Ade Chandra beat Osleni 2-0 (21-18 and 21-7) in the second round.
The Havana-born athlete came to Peruvian soil with the added motivation of being proclaimed champion in Guatemala, the previous week, event in which he earned 2 500 points for the world ranking.
This tournament in Peru grants the same amount of points to the winners in each of the modalities, hence the importance it had for the Cuban looking to advance on the universal list, where he is ranked 60th.
For Guerrero each competition is crucial in his desire to attend the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, which qualifying process closes on May 1st.
In his competitive route to that event, Guerrero should also attend the international tournaments of Jamaica and the Giraldilla of Havana; then the Grand Prix of Sao Paulo, the Peru Challenge and the Chile International contest.
