Cuban Dominguez finishes 4th in Blitz Event at World Mind Games

HAVANA , Cuba, Mar 1 (acn) Cuban chess player Leinier Dominguez finished fourth in the Blitz event, giving thus away another good performance in the IMSA Elite Mind Games organized in the Chinese city of Huai'an.

Five wins and an equal number of draws marked his work, totaling 18 units from possible 30 in three rounds played through the mode in which he won the crown of the world in 2008.
Leinier lost the bronze medal due to having worst tiebreak than Indian Pentala Harikrisna, who also totaled 18 points and escorted on the podium to Azeri Rauf Mamedov (19.5) and Russian Evgeny Tomashvesky (18.5).
His overall performance included 12 wins, same amount of draws and six losses, gaining thus 40.4 points for the world ranking of the specialty where he now appears 17th with 2 783.4 units.
The leader of Latin America was not swept in any of his series; however he defeated by that route (2-0) Ukrainian Vassily Ivanchuk and Chinese Hao Wang, Yue Wang and Chao B. Li .
This performance extended Lenier´s good pace which started with the third seat in the Rapid event and allows predicting with optimism another good performance in the Basque event which begins tomorrow.
The women's Blitz event was won by Russian Kateryna Lagno with 21.5 points, followed by her compatriot Valentina Gunina (20) and Bulgarian Antoaneta Stefanova (19.5).
