SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Feb 25 (acn) Upon completion of the eighth stage of the Guantanamo-Pinar del Rio-Havana Cycling Tour, a stretch of 73 kilometers from Cienfuegos and Santa Clara, Artemisa´s José Mojica remains as leader of the competition.
Mojica totals a time of 22 hours, 50 minutes and 46 seconds, and is escorted by Vicente Sanabria, from Matanzas, at 34 seconds, and Las Tunas´ Jans Carlos Arias at two minutes and 17 seconds.
The first intermediate sprint in the municipality of Cruces was won by Javier García, followed by Onel Santa Clara and Sergei Viamontes.
The second of these prizes went to Maikel Hernandez, seconded by Joselín Piedra and Javier García.
This stage was won by Jean Carlos Arias, followed by Pedro Portuondo and Leandro Marcos, the three of them with time of 1.34.48 hours.
Mojica told ACN that the route to the center of Cuba has required a great effort by athletes, but he has had the support of his team and hopes to continue optimistic to the finish line.
