Cuban GM Arribas ties on top of Continental Women's Chess Championship

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 25 (acn) After six rounds, Cuban GM Maritza Arribas appears tied on top of the standings of the Continental Women's Chess Championship organized in Lima, Peru, with the local GM Deysi Cori and Colmbian IM Ángela Franco.

In today's games, Arribas drew with Franco and Cori imitated them when facing American IM Ashritha Eswaran.

The three leaders total 5 points but the trio is headed by Franco, by having better tiebreak, who is followed by Cori and Arribas, respectively.

Meanwhile, Eswaran is part of a quartet totaling 4.5 units that escorts the leaders, including also the local FM Paula Paredes, Argentine IM Marisa Zuriel and Colombian IM Ingris Rivera.

Cori is the main favorite of the event which grants only one ticket for the World Cup later this year.

In case of tie upon completion of the nine rounds scheduled, the berth would be defined through rapid games format depending on the amount of players involved.

The tournament is attended by 38 contestants from nine countries and there are still three rounds to be played.
