CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Feb 24 (acn) The Guantánamo -Pinar- Havana cycling tour reaches today its eighth stage which is a 60 km c ircuit on the Paseo del Prado promenade of Cienfuegos city.
According to Eduardo Sotolongo, a specialist in the Provincial Directorate of INDER, the route in this first part of the stage comprises twenty laps around the promenade with two intermediate sprints at 18th and 36th kilometers, respectively.
The second part of this stage will start in evening hours and will cover the distance between Cienfuegos and Villa Clara towns with sprints in the municipalities of Cruces and Ranchuelo, he said.
The current event, considered championship of road cycling in 2014, stands out by extending its route to Pinar del Rio, before reaching the Cuban capital.
The race, 1 455 kilometers, will serve to riders as training towards the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
