HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 16 (acn) A group of seven Cuban athletes of sport shooting will undergo the next few days training bases abroad, with a view to major confrontations this year.
Rafael Guerra, national commissioner of the sport, told ACN that Leuris Pupo, London 2012 Olympic champion in 25 meters rapid fire pistol , is currently training in the United States and will not return to Cuba until the end of March.
He also referred that in the case of the skeet event, Juan Miguel Rodríguez, bronze medalist at the 2004 Summer Olympics, will leave with his coach on February 22 for Guatemala, where they will stay until March 6th.
He added that from March 1 to 20, five other shooters led by Eglys de la Cruz, in women's rifle, winner of the bronze medal at Beijing 2008 Olympics, will train in El Salvador.
The list is completed by Dianelys Pérez, women´s rifle; Reinier Estopiñán and Alexander Molerio, men's rifle, and Jorge Grau, 10 and 50 meters pistol.
Guerra highlighted the importance of those seven athletes to continue their preparation for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, sporting event for which they are already qualified.
According to the executive , ammunition deficit is a situation that continues affecting them, but a solution to this problem is that in these training bases abroad they have the opportunity to buy them in order to continue training.
