HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 1 (acn) Cuba's main figures will participate in the Pan American Boating Championships to be held next April in Atlanta, USA, where they will seek tickets for the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, next August.
Alejandro Hanze, national commissioner of the sport, told JIT sports publication the team i s made up by kayakers Jorge Garcia, winner of some m edals in continental events, and the world medalist Reinier Torres.
Hanze said García and Torres will be in the K-2 1000 meters event, while canoeist Anael Rodriguez will row in the C-1 200 meters.
He added that the canoeists Serguey Torres, medalist in world championships and cups, and the young Jorge Dayan will be the duo participating in the C-2 event.
So far, Cuba has only assured the participation in the Olympics of the kayaker Yusmary Mengana, who finished fifth in the final of the women's K-1 200 meters event at the 2015 World Cup in Italy.
Currently, the Cuban boating team is training at home, but they will have a training base in Paipa, Colombia, in March.
