PINAR del Rio, Cuba, Feb 1 (acn) Pinar del Río won its fourth consecutive title in the Cuban women's Superior Basketball League (LSB), when beating Guantanamo 79-68 in the Sports City Coliseum, in Havana.
Guard Arlenis Romero scored 26 points and again led the offensive of the winners, and also showed her skills in organizing the game, while Onaslaidis Roja was Guantanamo's best scorer with 32 points.
Anisleidis Galindo, MVP of the tournament, told ACN that Guantanamo was a very tough rival but we showed a collective play and proved again we are the best team of Cuban women's basketball.
Pedro Martinez, Pinar del Rio head coach, said that these four years of successes reflect a sustained work, with a lot of quality players who give their best to defend the colors of their province.
He added that it was very important the mix of experienced players with younger ones who follow in their footsteps; that is essential to maintain the winning heritage and fight to continue at the top of the LSB.
Meanwhile, Santiago de Cuba won the bronze medal after defeating 76-72 Capitalinas, with highlight for Isis Justis, with 16 points, and Suanly Tanis (15).
