HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 20 (acn) Ciego de Ávila defeated Industriales for second time to take another step towards qualification to postseason of Cuban baseball in day marked by the sweep of Matanzas over Holguin.
The Ciego de Avila Tigers won 9-1 with the eighth win of the season of Dachel Duquesne, who limited the opponent offensive to four hits and one earned run in six innings, while Yorbis Borroto and Jose Adolis Garcia drove in three RBIs per capita.
Yoanni Yera allowed three hits and struck out eight rivals in six innings to achieve his ninth win of the season and lead Matanzas in its 6-0 win over Holguin, while Yurisbel Gracial hit his tenth homer of the championship and drove in two runs for the cause winners.
Pinar del Rio is ratified in second seat in the standings by beating 5-0 Granma, with pitching prominence of veteran Vladimir Baños, who allowed five hits in seven innings and reached 100 victories in his career.
Yusniel Ibanez led Pinar del Rio´s offensive when hitting 2 for 4 with a homer and three RBIs in the game.
Finally, Luis Manuel Suarez allowed just four hits and struck out six opponents in seven innings of action to take Isla de la Juventud to win 8-3 over Las Tunas, supported from the batter's box by Julio Pablo Martinez, 2 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs.
After these results, Ciego de Avila leads the standings of Cuban baseball with 46 wins and 23 defeats, followed by Pinar del Río (42-24), Matanzas (41-25), Industriales (40-28), Holguin (38-31), Granma (37-32), Las Tunas (35-34) and Isla de la Juventud (34-34).
The subseries Holguin-Pinar del Rio, Granma-Industriales, Las Tunas-Matanzas and Ciego de Avila-Isla de la Juventud, from Thursday to Saturday, will be the last ones before the break for the participation of Cuba in the Caribbean Series.
