HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 17 (acn) The Venezuelan player Miguel Cabrera praised the quality of baseball in Cuba and appreciated the opportunity to visit the Caribbean nation as part of an MLB high-level delegation.
Awarded as American League MVP in 2012 and 2013, Cabrera said that Cuban baseball is at a high level and it is always exciting to play against Cuban players, both in the US baseball circuit as in international events.
Cuban players are among the best in the world, they have proven it throughout the history of the sport and give shine to tournaments such as the Caribbean Series and the WBC, the first baseman of the Detroit Tigers noted.
About his visit, Cabrera positively evaluated the ability to appreciate a new culture and was optimistic for taking a good experience and also learn about the intricacies of Cuban baseball.
Miguel Cabrera will participate in two clinics devoted to children under 12 years, the first is scheduled for today at Latinoamericano Stadium in Havana, and the second one will be on Thursday at Victoria de Giron Park, in Matanzas city.
We come to Cuba to teach what we know in terms of baseball and also to learn, said modestly the stellar Venezuelan player, four times champion batter of the American League.
Cabrera is part of an MLB high-level delegation visiting Cuba, led by Joe Torre and Dan Halem, executive vice president of baseball operations and executive vice president for Labor Relations of the organization, respectively.
The list of visitors also includes Tony Clark and Dave Winfield, executive director and special assistant of the MLB Players Association, respectively, as well as several active players as Americans Clayton Kershaw, Jon Jay and Dominican Nelson Cruz, among others.
