HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 7 (acn) Pinar del Rio beat 3-1 Industriales in the last game of the remaining matches of the qualifying stage of the Cuban baseball championship in its 55th edition.
The winner was the reliever Vladimir Baños, who allowed only two hits in four innings, and Livan Moinelo took the save, while Frank Monthiet took the loss.
First baseman William Saavedra led Pinar del Rio´s offensive by hitting 2 for 3 including a double and two RBIs, while outfielder Reidel Alvarez hit 3 for 4 with one run scored.
Ciego de Avila led the qualifying stage of the Cuban baseball championship with 31 wins and 13 losses, seconded by Industriales (30-15), Pinar del Río (28-16), Granma (28-17), Las Tunas, Matanzas and Holguin (29-19), and Isla de la Juventud (25-20).
The selection of reinforcements to strengthen each of the teams qualified for the next round will be held next Wednesday to make way for the All-Star Game, agreed for next weekend at Julio Antonio Mella stadium, in Las Tunas.
The elite phase of the Cuban National Series will start on December 15 and will run until March next year, with the obligatory stop for the participation of current monarch Ciego de Avila in the Santo Domingo 2016 Caribbean Series.
