HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 25 (acn) The Cuban badminton player Osleni Guerrero will today seek his third win in the Yonex Open, hosted by the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, until November 29, tourney that grants to the winners 5 000 points for the world ranking.
Guerrero will face in the final match of group F Austrian David Obernosterer, fourth seed in the men's individual event.
Runner-up of Guadalajara 2011 Pan American Games, the Cuban athlete debuted yesterday with two easy victories, both 2-0, the first one against the host Lucas Da Silva (21-5 and 21-16) in just 20 minutes.
The also winner of the Suriname International Tournament, on November 21, beat in his second appearance Venezuelan Jhonatan Wu Zheng (21-15 and 21-2), according to the official website of the contest.
On Brazilian soil, Guerrero could rival other high level players as Chinese Lin Dan, first seed of the tourney; and Spanish Pablo Abian (2) and Misha Zilberman (3), from Israel.
Guerrero, who appears 72nd in the universal list, attends this event in order to win points in the world ranking to have better options for qualifying to the 2016 Olympics.
So far this season, he also won the crown at Giraldilla International Tournament, which was hosted by Havana last March, in addition to the gold medal in the Chile International contest.
