Cuban judoka Asley González wins silver medal in Qingdao Grand Prix

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 23 (acn) The judoka Asley González (90 kg) won a silver medal in Qingdao Grand Prix, result that earned Cuba finishing tenth among the 59 participating countries.

According to the website of the event, Gonzalez achieved four consecutive wins by Ippon, but lost in the final by Wazari to Japan's Kenta Nagazawa, in a bout that was defined in overtime.
Gonzalez´z previous victims were Jyun Wang, from Chinese Taipei, American Thomas Capra, Azeri Ramin Gurbanov, and French Alexandre Iddir, in all cases by Ippon.
Another important element to emphasize in the performance of González is that Gurbanov and Iddir won the bronze medals.
The other Cuban athletes that also competed on Sunday were Jose Armenteros (100 kilos), Alex Garcia (+100), Yalennis Castillo (78) and Idalis Ortiz (+78), but all were off the podium.
Cuba also won on Saturday a bronze medal with Maricet Espinosa (63), and a fifth sat through Ivan Silva (81).
Meanwhile, Dayaris Mestre (48), Aliuska Ojeda (57), and Magdiel Estrada (73) could not reach medals either ,
The tournament brought together 379 judokas -237 men and 142 women- from 59 countries, and distributed 300 points for the world ranking to the winner of each of the 14 divisions convened towards qualifying to Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics.
The leading nations were Japan (5-1-3), Mongolia ( 2-2-2), Azerbaijan (2-1-3), China (2-1-2), South Korea (1-1-4), France (1- 1-2) and Croatia (1-0-0).
