HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 18 (acn) Cuban Osleni Guerrero debuts today against Mexican Arturo Hernandez in the International Badminton Tournament which houses Suriname, until November 21.
Guerrero, runner-up of Guadalajara 2011 Pan American Games, will make his first appearance in a competition that brings together more than 40 players in the men's individual event, according to the official site of the contest.
The Cuban athlete, top seed among men, will attend the tourney with the aim of accumulating units in the world ranking , which Olympic qualifying process closes on May next year.
So far this season, Guerrero won the crown in the sixteenth edition of the Giraldilla tournament, which hosted Havana last March; besides the title in the Chile International Cup.
His main opponents in this event will be American Howard Shu, second seed, as well as Italian Indra Bagus (3) and Canadian Martin Giuffre (4).
Precisely Giuffre beat Osleni in the semifinals of the continental competition in Toronto, held in late July, so if facing each other again, it would be a kind of revenge for the Cuban player.
