HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 16 (acn) Cuban Jorge Luis Suarez won his fourth title in the marathon, on the 29th edition of Marabana, attended by about five thousand national and foreign athletes.
Suarez won with time of two hours, 29 minutes and 30 seconds, with a significant advantage over Yumier Fouman (2: 38.12) and Alien Reyes (2: 40.03), also from Cuba, who finished second and third respectively.
I trained hard with the aim of obtaining my fourth title and I even thought about retiring but as long as I reach the podium and feel strong I'll be here participating in Marabana, Suarez, who is chief of a police department in Havana, told the press.
Meanwhile, the winner of the women's 10 km race was the also Cuban Dailin Belmonte, and Francisco Rodney Estevez won the same event for men.
It was also significant that for the first time in history, more than 500 runners were present at the marathon event.
