Cuban Volleyball Players Undefeated in Semi-finals of NORCECA Tournament

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 8 (acn) Cuba rea ched undefeated the semifinal stage of the NORCECA Men's V olleyball Tournament, under way in Cordoba, Mexico, after beating the local squad.

Cuba won 3-0 (25-18, 25- 17, 25-14) after one hour and five minutes and with this result the disciples of Rodolfo Sanchez achieved their third straight win, as they had previously beaten Costa Rica and Trinidad and Tobago 3-0.
According to the competition's website, the top scorer of the match was Cuban Osmany Uriarte with 13 points, supported by his teammates Rolando Cepeda ( 9) and Tomas Luis Sosa (8), while Ivan Marquez (5) highlighted for locals.
In the other match of Group B, Costa Rica defeated Trinidad and Tobago 3-1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-23 and 25-21), while in Poole A Canada won over Puerto Rico 3-0 ( 25-23, 25-17 and 25-23 ).
In this way, Cuba and Canada reached undefeated the semifinals scheduled for Friday, and now wait for the winners of the quarter-finals to be held today, with the Mexico - Honduras and Costa Rica -Puerto Rico games.
Cubans lead group B with 15 points, three wins and no games lost, followed by Mexicans (10-2-1), Costa Ricans (5-1-2) and Trinidadians (0-0-3).
Meanwhile, Canadians (10-2-0) topped Poole A, followed by Puerto Ricans (5-1-1) and Hondurans (0-0-2).
This event grants four tickets for the upcoming January Final Four tournament, which will award one berth to the 2016 Summer Olympics, while the teams finishing from second to fourth will play in a repechage contest for another ticket.
