HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 6 (acn) Cuba will seek on Tuesday its second win in the NORCECA Men's Continental Volleyball Championship, under way in Cordoba, Mexico, when facing Trinidad and Tobago.
After winning over Costa Rica3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-18) on Monday, Cubans are favorites to beat the Trinidadians, a result that will guarantee them getting undefeated to the last day of the preliminaries of G roup B.
According to the website of the event, they will have their toughest match on Wednesday, as they will rival the host squad.
Against Costa Ricans, the top scorer of the match was Cuban captain Rolando Cepeda, who scored 10 points, supported by Javier Jimenez (9), while Richard Smith (8) and Alberto Blanco (5) highlighted for the losers.
Group A includes Canada, Honduras and Puerto Rico.
The leaders of the two pools will advance directly to the semifinals, while those finishing second and third will be in the quarter-final stage.
The NORCECA tournament grants four berths to the Final Four, which will take place in January and will award one ticket to the 2016 Summer Olympics, while those finishing from second to fourth will have other chances in repechage events.
Cuba accumulates 23 medals in this kind of contests, 15 gold , four silver and four bronze medals, followed by the U.S.A. ( 22-8-10-4), Canada ( 17-0-5-12), Mexico ( 5-0-3-2) and Puerto Rico ( 2-0-1-1).
